4. Adding & Naming Pages

The Page Names section of the SiteWizard editor allows you to give all the pages of your website a specific name that will appear in the menu of your live site. It also allows you to give the page a file name which appears in the URL for the page. From this panel, you can also add extra pages to your site.

Tip: Search Engines such as Google take names and filenames very seriously. Try to name pages using keyword rich wording. For example, if your company sells Gizmo Widgets, instead of naming your page 'Our Products', call it 'Gizmo Widgets' - this will increase your chances of being found when someone searches for Gizmo Widgets on Google!

4.1 Naming & Renaming Pages

By default, all pages in the SiteWizard CMS are named by their unique ID number, as 'Page 1', 'Page 2', etc. You can specify a name for each page to be used instead of these default names.

  1. In the Page Names editor panel, locate the page you wish to edit on the list.
  2. Click in the text box in the Page Description column and type the text you wish to name your page. For example, if your page contains a list of the services you provide, then you could name the page 'Services'.
  3. Now click on the Alternative HTML Filename box that relates to the same page as before. Type in the text you wish the file to be named. If you type 'services', the file name will become 'services.htm'. This filename forms part of the URL for the page. For example, the full URL for that page would look like this: http://www.yourcompany.com/services.htm
  4. Repeat this process for all the pages you require on your website.
  5. Click on the Save Changes button to save your work, or the Cancel Changes button to discard the changes.
Please Note: You cannot have any spaces in an HTML file name. Instead, separate your words using either a hyphen (-) or an underscore (_). Some other characters are also disallowed, and you also cannot use the word 'index' or 'pagexxx' (where x is a number) as these are words reserved for use by the system.

4.2 Adding Pages

If you need more pages than are currently available on the site, you can do this from the Page Names panel.

  1. Scroll to the very bottom of the Page Names panel to reach the Additional Pages box.
  2. Click the downward arrow on the drop-down box to select any extra pages - you can select up to 5 at a time.
  3. Click on the Save Changes button to save your Page Name changes and add any selected additional pages.
